Perspective and Perception

As with “Spontaneous Deliberation” (see below), process and perception are dominant themes. These works are all on canvas. Software is used to manipulate photographs of works-in-progress to expedite decision-making. The position and layering of geometric and gestural  elements create ambiguous dimension, content, and perspective, and are intended to stimulate the viewer’s imagination.

Spontaneous Deliberation

This series examines process. Parameters such as uniform size and surface, and simplified palette were established to expedite production. Physical and emotive effects of color and brush marks are explored. Paint application is generally thin, often exposing some layers beneath. A vocabulary of iconographic gestural brushstrokes paired with formal shapes and line is being developed. These components create ambiguous rhythm, dimension and structure.
